“If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done” (Ecclesiastes 11:4 TLB).

No time for waste.

God has been speaking to Pastor and me so much over the last month about the word TIME!  We feel He wanted us to really hear what He is saying to us as a church as we ended 2018 and began yet another year. It’s the 8th day of 2019 already, here’s a thought last Tuesday was New Year Day!

Across from my kitchen window there was a little pile of rubbish, old doors which are being replaced, amongst other things, as our flats are being improved, and after seeing and hearing so much on the word time I looked out and there was a carrier bag that said “No time for waste!”  This is not the usual quote we say as we rush around our daily routines “No time to waste” is the usual thing we say, along with ‘come on hurry up’… However, there is clearly no time FOR waste!  For things and even people? I’m afraid so if this wastes our time!

Also I read in Ecclesiastes 3:1 MSG

There’s an opportune time to do things, a right time for everything on the earth…&

Galatians 4:4 But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman…

God is clearly extraordinary! One of the many messages of Christmas is GOD’S TIMING!

There is no exact reason given in the Bible for the timing of Jesus’ birth, as Paul stated “it happened when the fullness of the time had come”, in the tiny small town of Bethlehem.  I think we might have picked a different time and place for the Son of God to enter the world, certainly not when Israel was under Roman rule! I also would have chosen Jerusalem and especially not to be born in a stable for goodness sake – but then don’t we often question the times and ways God works in our life!

Just as God sent His Son into the world in seemingly “ordinary” way, so I find He works in our lives with the same purposefulness. So as we have just finished celebrating and remembered Christ’s birth maybe we should also remember that every work of God is extraordinary – INCLUDING THE TIMES AND WAYS HE ACTS IN OUR LIFE!

There is so much in my life that I love about knowing God, my list could fill many pages and one of the things I really love, which gives me great peace and security is that God knows the future…Hallelujah!

To make the most of your time, don’t wait to begin.

There’s never going to be an ideal time for us to get control of our calendar. You may think, “I’m going to do this one of these days.” Or maybe you’re waiting to “get around to it.” One of our favourite phrases is, “When things settle down.” Yeah, right! Let me let you in on a little secret: “Things” are never going to settle down. Life is only speeding up, not getting slower. The older you get, the faster it goes. When I was in Year 3 it took forever and I can even remember my teacher Mrs Urien! But now I’m wondering, where did 2018 go?

If you’re thinking that you’re going to reach an ideal situation in life that will allow you to get control of your time and do the things that are really important, it’s not going to happen. Maybe you’re thinking, “When things settle down, then I’ll start having a daily quiet time with God. I’ll read my Bible when I have a lot of time to spare.” No! Do it now. Make the time.

If you’re thinking, “When things settle down, I’m going to spend more time with the kids,” here’s the thing: It’s not going to settle down until the kids leave the house and then it still doesn’t settle down believe me I know!  Do it now. You have to learn to spend time with your kids when things are not settled down.

Life must be lived under imperfect conditions. If the only time you enjoy your spouse is when things are perfect, you’re not ever going to enjoy them. If the only time you enjoy your kids is when things are perfect, you’re never going to enjoy them. If the only time you pray is when you feel like it, the Devil’s going to make sure you never feel like it.

You have to live your life and enjoy what God’s given you today in spite of imperfect conditions or circumstances. Stop looking for things to settle down. Don’t wait on “one of these days.”

So what about the future in 2019

  1. All of us have ideas about the future…I know I’m going to make 2019 a better use of my time ‘I have no time for waste’ and to be honest at 60 years of age I need more time to finish what I’ve started and what I plan to start in this new year!  Joshua in Joshua 10 had a battle on his hands that he wanted to finish but the sun was going down let’s read what he did…v12-14 (NASB)

12 Then Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel,

“O sun, stand still at Gibeon,
And O moon in the valley of Aijalon.”
13 So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped,
Until the nation avenged themselves of their enemies.

Is it not written in the book of Jashar? And the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day. 14 There was no day like that before it or after it, when the Lord listened to the voice of a man; for the Lord fought for Israel.

Both the sun and the moon stopped until Joshua got the job done and his enemies were defeated.

The only problem Joshua had was that he was running out of TIME!

I have said very often…

  • If only I had started sooner…
  • If I’d known what I know now I would have…

I think I am smarter now and wiser but time is against me, what a crazy thing to do Joshua – “sun stand still”!

God says to us “Do you think I could redeem you and not redeem time?”

I believe God can and will redeem our TIME!

I BELIEVE THAT GOD WILL SHOW US HOW AND WHERE TO BE EFFECTIVE AND WILL STOP TIME SO WE CAN BE EFFECTIVE! To be honest I don’t have time to not be effective, I don’t want to be busy just for the sake of being busy, I want to be better not busy.

Time stand still I’m not finished.

As we are on the precipice of a new year I believe that this is our set time!

All of us have ideas about the future, ideas that range from maybe a hunch to extremely confident depending on the situation, but none of us really knows the future with 100% certainty.

God knows the future and if we are anxious about something in our future we shouldn’t be.  God knows what we don’t and will reveal it in GOOD TIME AND WE CAN TRUST HIM TO MAKE EVERYTHING GOOD IN HIS TIME!

God chose the perfect time and place for Baby Jesus to be born, not perfect conditions by any stretch of the imagination.  But in those imperfect conditions, on planet earth, it was exactly the right TIME and He’s working just as purposefully in our lives, too!

We need clarity and sustained focus over time to make the changes we desire this year.

Our goal is to help you choose just one word to be your focus for the next 12 months and to help you keep your attention fixed on your word.

I confess that not many of my resolutions have worked, if any and I’m guessing that’s true for you too!  Could that be because we base them on the person we’re tired of being rather than who does God want me to become?

So what about the person God Himself created you to be?  Decide what kind of better person you want to be at the end of this year and if there are about 15 things you want to change resist the temptation to promise you will do them all.  Instead simply commit to ONE WORD. Give it time and stay with it.

That one word will be a lens to help you to see the changes you need to make and whether or not change is actually happening.  And if the process is hard, which in reality we know it can be, stay focused on your word it will help you move and change in the right direction and draw you closer to God as you actually see Him working in your life for your good!

His love & mine,

Pastor Lydia
